Air Force Academy cadets study aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, structures, materials, and controls through a design-build-fly aeronautical engineering program.
The senior capstone offers aircraft or aircraft-engine design sequences, supported by wind tunnels, jet engines, experimental methods, flight testing, and summer research opportunities.
A design-build-fly approach carries classroom engineering into hands-on aeronautics work, and cadets address real design problems in the Academy laboratory. The bachelor’s curriculum is accredited by ABET under the general engineering criteria and the program criteria for aerospace engineering and similarly named engineering programs.
The federal aerospace bachelor’s row reports 125 awards and an 85.8 score, corresponding to position 14 among 73 national peers.
The official Air Force Academy site describes its federal service-academy mission and officer-development role.
