What the national space studies ranking actually compares

A single national order is useful for discovery, but the score underneath it is calculated within an exact CIP code and award level. That means a bachelor’s in aerospace engineering earns its score against other bachelor’s programs in that federal field. An astronomy doctorate has its own doctoral astronomy peer group.

Use the field rankings when curriculum matters most, and use the degree-level rankings when you already know the credential you need. The online list has a tighter rule: a school’s official program material must explicitly confirm online delivery before the program enters that ranking.
